The semester ended Friday at Florida Atlantic University, but there won’t be much of a holiday break for the off-campus housing division at Florida’s Best Realty Services.

The Boca Raton-based firm will be working with FAU students scrambling to put roofs over their heads by the time classes resume next month.

Over the next 45 days, Florida’s Best expects to arrange 150 student leases — about triple its normal business, co-founder Marshall Sklar said.

FAU has room for about 4,000 students on the Boca Raton campus, but many FAU undergrads end up getting their own place after about a year, Sklar said.

Within 2 miles of campus, a one-bedroom apartment rents for about $950 a month, Sklar said. If students look north to Delray Beach or Boynton Beach, they usually can find a one-bedroom for $875, he said.

The niche business helps Florida’s Best get through the holiday season, when home sales soften.

“I wouldn’t say ‘screeching halt,’ but it is significantly slower this time of year,” Sklar said.
